It's the new guy again. Just wanted to know if anyone had a solution to exhaust fumes inside the car. I have gutted everything from the manifold to the muffler to no avail. I was ready to sell my car just because I could not enjoy it with the sunroof open and windows down. You guys have given me a second wind with my Q ship. This bothers me more than the loss of power and fuel mileage(I still look good cruisin)

Exhaust fumes? Never heard that complaint before in 16 years of ownership.

Sounds like some Citgo gas [high sulfur] or bad cats/precats to me.........you cannot gut anything in exhaust system and maintain as new VAPORS.

Incidently, CITGO is owned by Venezuela and our good bud, Chavez. I will never again buy any gas from them.

What I don't understand is how we chastise Chavez for saying exactly what President Bush said during his State of the Union address. Can someone clarify the difference between the "Devil" (Chavez) and Bush's "Axis of EVIL" statement? I am really having a hard time trying to realize this obvious double-standard.

I only use Shell premium - no mom and pop gas for my baby! The smell actually started before I gutted the exhaust, hence the reason for gutting it. The dealer, in their never ending quest to save me money, told me to just get a whole new exhaust system only $4K! I can get a whole car for that. So I paid a muffler shop $90 bucks to gut it - Only out of fear of ruining my motor. I haven't seen any other posts, threads, or other recommendations for this problem. If I let the windows up and rec. the air there's no smell

Depends on the Mercaptan [sulfur] content of fuel.............I would think the acetaldehyde [from ethanol] would be worse and more harmful.

Maybe if members were forced to pipe 10% of exhaust fumes into cabin they would be more careful about mainteance and the fuel they purchased.

Yeah it seems weird to me why anyone would want to do $4K of damage to their exhaust system for no performance gain and lots of air quality damage.

I remember LA in the sixties, and it was not nice. Rather like Mexico City on most days now.

It's not that it's a "bad" smell it's just that you don't want exhaust fumes in your car. If you ride motorcycles, it's like riding down the highway 30 deep and then stopping somewhere - everybody smells like exhaust.
