Hello, I have the opportunity to get a 94 pathfinder really cheap, the owner is a co worker of mine and he had the engine replaced 2 years ago with a V6 out of a Mercury van or something, it's the same VG30 that the Nissan has just in the Mercury it was designed as a non interference engine. Anyway the bolt that holds the timing tensioner broke and the truck ran out of timing, he had a new tensioner and timing belt installed but says when the shop tried to start the truck it wouldn't start, he's saying it probably needs an engine. being that it's a non interference engine even if the timing belt broke the pistons shouldn't have hit the valves so any ideas what else could be wrong with it? besides if they installed the belt wrong? The price is good probably less than $500. Any ideas please respond, THANKS

um ya.... there's no way for us to even start diagnosing your problem with that little info.

does it turn over and try to start? does it just crank and crank? does it not even turn over?

start with the basics. check all fuses, fusible links, and relays.

verify fuel pressure at the fuel rail, at injectors if possible. verify spark at the spark plugs. it probably wouldn't hurt to replace the fuel filter, distributor cap/rotor, spark plugs. it probably needs them.

You need Three Things for a Running Motor

Fuel, Compression, Ignition. Start There
