94 J30 Transmission(?) problems

transmission never slipped, good clean transmission fluid with no burnt smell.wife was driving up a hill and heard a pop in the transmission area and the car started rolling backwards. 94 j30 with 180k. could it be anything besides the transmission? If it is where is the best place to get one? Thanks, [email protected]

Take it to a transmission shop to check out. Sounds llike the torque convertor ran it's spline.. (imagine a gear wheel losing it's teeth) You can either get it rebuilt, take the gamble of buying a supposedly low mileage JDM (Japanese domestic model) export transmission..these usually come in crates shipped from cars which were "retired" in Japan.check ebay for a good idea of these... I have seen these in the shop where I do my work and they seem to work fine..usually the place you buy it from gives you a short warranty to get you comfy..60-90 days..or sometimes more..
