94 J30 Rough Idle...IM lost and new...just got my J30

Use throttle body cleaner/carb cleaner. Just don't spray a bunch into the intake manifold, i usually spray it on a toothbrush and then use that to clean the throttle body. Usually you can use the maf cleaner to clean the connector for it, also make sure the plug and connection it tight.

You can try it, but I don't think its strong enough to get off the carbon build up on the throttle bodies.

well i cleaned the mass air flow sensor, and it didnt seem to do anything. how do i find out if my mass air flow sensor is bad?

Swap it with a known good one and see if it works then.

Ok I just got me a 94 j30 feb 2nd. Im not quite sure whats wrong with it. the guy that had it listed said that it needed a timing adjustment. Well I brought it home, to have my gf's dad check it out. He's pretty good at fixing cars. He thought it was misfiring on one or two cylinders. Thats what I was thinking the problem was. I went and bought 6 new spark plugs, changed those, and checked the coil packs to see if one of those are bad. Those all seem to be fine, and all saprk plugs are getting fire. Next thing, was to check the computer for codes. I found the sticky on here that tells me how to do it. Im looking at the ecu and it has no lights on it nor a screw to turn. I called the closest Nissan dealer and they said it might have a newer ecu in it, and that I would have to bring it to them to scan. Im just curious if anyone on here has any pointers as to what might be my problem. What else could I look at? The car really has no get up power at all. It drives but is real rough, with shaking. It did manage to drive all the way from 25 mins south of St Louis to Effingham Illinois over a hour and a half away. Im very lost on what to check next besides mabey the timing belt, and the like. Anyone have any ideas??? I really appriciate all the help you could give.

Any progress? It sounds like we have very similar problems.

If it helps at all, I wouldn't suspect the timing belt and try a quart of synthetic oil to quiet any sticky lifters/knocking.

Back to the rough idle and lack of power, my short list is: - faulty ECU connections - blocked EGR tubes - one or two weak injectors

After last night's disconnecting and re-connecting, today was a good day. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Disconnect the vac line that runs to your egr and see if that help's. Usually if the Control solenoid connector has a faulty connection the EGR will be stuck in the open position since the lack of current cause's the solenoid to stay in the open position. My 300zx had the same issue a while back.
