Hey guys ...I just aquired a 94 J30 with 125K and have noticed a thump when I hit any sizable bump in the road at slow speed ..Like train tracks or a speed bump ..My first thought were the struts are shot but on a smooth road any dips or such dont cause any bounce .. and if I push it down when parked it doesnt spring back and forth ???Im I possibly just looking at the upper mounts being shot ??I have zero oil seepage on both struts .. and I do know the large bellow part of the boot above the struts are shot ...Any advice would be greatly appreciated ..I had to get a door light swith at the stealership to get the alarm up to snuff and causually asked the guy what the stut assy's cost ...nearly passed out !!!!

If the struts are original there's no way they're any good. New struts and new rubber all around will make it feel like a different car.

My advice, buy the struts, tie rods, tie rod ends, other ruber from the dealer (your only source) and have a competent non-dealer mechanic put them in. Cheaper than dealer labour rates. If you don't get your strut fixed be prepared to have your tires shred at an astounding rate.

Thats what I was afraid of...They want some serious beer money for that stuff !! He mentioned some modification that was needed if I had the original struts .. I dont have a service record or anything to know if they are orig .. Must investigate ..

Thanx guys
