This is strange. Out of the blue the oil pressure sensor is leaking intensely. What is the easiest way of getting at it? No clear shot from the bottom, and the top looks rugged also. This appears to be as nasty as the oxygen sensor.

Been there 3 times so far. Seems this is a real 'deadly' weak area. Nearly cost engine in spouses 92 active when it blew 5 miles from service without warning. On my '94, leak started as I drove into driveway!! leaking 1 qt/min. Customer car also started large leak suddenly.

Access is not great, but quite do-able. From underneath. Helps to jack engine up for a little more clearance. Put the Socket on the sensor, then put fine tooth ratchet on and turn it out. Alternative is using compact air ratchet to turn the socket. No way to use extensions and U-joints.

In 45 years of responsible care of all sorts of engines , these are the only oil pressure sending units to develop large leaks, and suddenly. Weird

Thanks so much for your response; I thought that I was the only one with the problem. It is currently dumping about a quart of oil every other day. From what you say, it sounds like the entire sensor may blow out. Very surprised to find no mention of this while searching. So it looks like I will need a deep socket, maybe a 15 or 17 mm. How did you go about jacking up the engine?

This is the first time I have heard of catastrophic blow-out sensors too! Very disturbing...

It is absolutely do-able, but tight...

Good luck!

Take off your sway bar and you'll have better access to the sensor.
