I've looked everywhere, with the exception of some a-hole trying to sell a full set on Ebay for $1250, free shipping, how nice of him, I can't locate a set of HU-2890A's ANYWHERE.

Does anyone know where I can get a set? Does anyone know what's going on.? One guy said he's seen in the past where Tokico just stops producing certain shocks due to the age of the vehicle... Anyone?

This isn't looking good... I just found the 2013 Tokico Product catalog... NO Q45/CIMA shocks at all. Only shocks for the I30.

http://www.tokico.biz/catalogue/img/04catalogue.pdf

What alternatives are out there?

Although crazy expensive, it seems like you can still order them on http://www.infinitipartsusa.com
Will cost over a $1000 for all 4, but they're OEM and at least you can still get them.

I'm going to need to order a set myself at some point...

If the earlier 90-93 are availible just drill out the lower mount from 20mm to 22mm.

Thanks, I'll do that as a last resort, safety is a concern. Guess I'll be switching to coilovers soon, been wanting some anyway, but I wanted to wait for a better time. A grand is a grand, a couple hundred, no big deal...

Ksports and JIC are the only coilovers I've seen that specifically seperate 90-93 and 94-96. All others have the smaller 20mm front lower mounts. Eventually I'll go for the Ksports but the only problem is the spring rates seem way too stiff, 20kg front and I think 18kg rear. The other problem is paying $1200, but if I do that I'll sell my Eibach/Tokico setup.

Exactly... $1200. Not chump change. BTW, I've never had coilovers before; what is the lifespan on them and what kind of maintenance, if you know?

No real regular maintenance, so expect 50k before a rebuild. Depending on the quality of your roads and since our cars are so heavy Some last as long as factory struts, it all depends on a lot of things. How much/far do you drive that beast?

About 1000 miles per month. 3-5 street races per week. People love to try their luck against QZILLA... LOL Mostly Mustangs for some reason... I wanted to get a big brake setup for my Baby for Christmas, but another grand out for suspension... Need to plant another money tree.

Its something about the people who drive Mustangs, have the same thing here in the SF bay area.

What big brake kit were you thinking about? I want to do the G37/370z sport brake swap(355x32mm Rotor), the calipers are about $250 a piece(front) from the dealer + rotors which are around $50 a piece and then you can use the 240sx to 300zx caliper brake lines. There are some adapters for the calipers on the internet, or you can just make them yourself. Total cost is under $700 for the front using all brand new parts.

I wanted to get that Wilwood setup 6 piston front/4 piston rear with 14" rotors, but I think they discontinued it. I actually have a set of 300ZX calipers and rotors in the garage already, but haven't got around to clean them up, powder coating, etc.. I used to live in Union City. Rode my ZX7 across the San Mateo almost every night. Used to race around SFO, go out to Ocean Beach, near Seal Rock to "meditate"...

I don't think so, they refunded my money from an online order... Did you actually talk to them? What's listed online doesn't mean they actually have them in stock. I made a lot of calls and ordered from 4 or 5 places... All of them said no dice or refunded my money.

FYI; The douchebag on Ebay is selling JUST the front set for $1249.00, free shipping... I'm not a communist, but I'd like to slash his tires! Seems he got a heads up.

Not defending this seller, but it seems he has both front and rear.. but you're probably right. He probably knows he has some of the last ones available. So does this mean the only other option is to order from infinitiparts?

Like I said, not a communist, just sucks... I know he has full sets as well, but his ad @ $1249.00 is just for the front pair... His title;

TOKICO HP Series Shocks INFINITI 94 95 96 Q45 FRONT Set HU2890A Exc. Active Susp

He probably doesn't even drive a Q...

Well, I said screw it and bought the last pair of HU-2890's this guy had for $209.88... Had 4 watchers, so I figure they're almost gone as well. I'll drill press 2mm out and be done.

I'm still waiting for responses for 2 other orders that I haven't had confirmation emails on. Jesus, I've got right at $750 out for one pair of shocks... At least this buys me some time for the coilovers. :dblthumb:

Looks like we need to figure out a good solution for shocks on the Q's now. I wonder if it would be worth seeing if Tokico would make another run of them? Or, I wonder if a custom shock builder could make a reasonably priced "copy" of the tokico blues. What would really be nice is a set of adjustable shocks like the tokico illumina's for other model Nissans. Those with a set of nice lowering springs would be really nice. I've always felt that the tokico blues didn't have enough damping for lowering springs, so something a little stiffer that you could dial into your liking would be really nice.

Can anyone out there rebuild Tokicos? Is it even possible to do so? I sent an email to Tokico, Hitachi, regarding the shocks, but I haven't received a response. Maybe if "NICO" sent an email and as many members as possible... Maybe? I'm sure it just boils down to a cost/benefit ratio for them.

I just got emails on the two outstanding orders... NO LONGER IN STOCK. Might I suggest if you see ANY pair or a reasonable price... Snatch 'em up... Sadly, they're gone, I'm afraid. :frown:

This is horrible timing for me. One of my front shocks is completely blown and causing some crazy tire wear. If anybody gets a lead on some reasonably priced shocks, please post up here! Why does Infiniti make it so hard to get shocks for their vehicles (at least the ones that do not have Nissan twin)?

Sorry this is off topic... Had to share with someone; I just raced a C6 off a 35-40 roll. Off a turn, he downshifted first, no indication he was going to race till then. He got about 3/4 car ahead of me, I was in third and car downshifted to second, gaining past his door, then third... My Baby QZILLA walked him, looked down and saw 130+... :dance

This guy on Ebay is selling HU-2890's for $210/set. I don't think he realizes they're almost gone, or he's just a good guy. Like me, for 94-96, you will have to drill out 2mm off bottom mount, from 20mm to 22mm. But I have probably made 20+ calls and placed 4-6 orders online, looking for 2890A's and these are the only ones I've found reasonably priced. Another guy has individual 2890's for $190 each. Then there's the douchebag selling a set of 2890A's for $1249 per pair.

I learned a lot I didn't want to know about both human nature and eBay when I tried to buy Tokico blue rear shocks for my '95 Q45 from d1 Concepts [mentioned and linked to above, but not identified].

On 9/11/13, I bought a pair of HU2892s from d1 Concepts on eBay for $163, and paid with PayPal.

d1 requested a cancellation of the transaction, and I declined and asked why they wanted to cancel.

d1 wrote that they only had 1 of the shocks in stock, and were refunding my PayPal payment. But when I looked at their website, they were offering a pair for $1163. So I asked them to complete the order.

d1 wrote back that their "system" had automatically raised the e-bay offering price by $1000 to signify they were out of stock. But have no fear! D1 would return the price to the normal $163 when their new stock arrived.

Since I already had one Tokico blue matching shock that was in good shape, I asked them to send me the one shock that they admitted they had in stock.

They suggested I try other dealers, and suggested some. I tried their suggestions, and wrote back that the dealers they suggested didn't have the shocks and could they please send me the one they had.

And that's when they stopped responding to my e-mails.

Here's where it gets interesting. eBay can do nothing about this.

eBay customer service tells me that eBay will pursue a seller who refuses to take your money and honor a transaction.

However, if the seller takes your money, asks to cancel the transaction, and refunds your money, the case is considered "closed" even if you refuse the cancellation request. At that point, there's nothing eBay can do. The eBay rep told me that an increasing number of sellers have found and are exploiting this loophole in the eBay honor system and eBay is trying to close the loophole. Until the loophole is closed, though, if you buy something on eBay at a good price, but the seller finds a better offer or just doesn't like the winning bid on an auction, the seller can get rid of you at no risk by temporarily completing the transaction, requesting a cancellation, and refunding your money. Even if you object to the cancellation request, you're out of luck when it comes to getting the item or penalizing the seller.

The eBay rep assured me that eBay is keeping track of sellers like d1 who are abusing the loophole, but I'm not holding my breath while waiting for eBay to ban them from the site. In the meantime, it seems from posts above that d1 got its new stock of HU2892s, but the price didn't go back down to $163 per pair.

My e-mail string with d1 Concepts appears below, earliest e-mail at the bottom:

The new listing says that you now have a pair of the Tokico HU2892 shocks in stock. These shocks list for $108. Could you please just send me the pair of shocks that I ordered without further delay?

Dear rgmartin56,

Hello Robert, thanks for your recent order of the Tokico shock for your Q45. Unfortunately, just checked our inventory, as we sold our last complete set about a week ago. As of right now, we only have 1 piece left in stock. ETA for the next shipment is about 4-5 weeks away. In the mean time, we will be giving you a full refund via Paypal, as fund should be going back to your account or your original payment source. Please kindly accept the ebay cancellation request, so ebay would cancel this order/transaction completely. Once again, please accept our apology and sorry for any inconvenience. Any question, please let us know again, and would be happy to further assist you, thank you.
