I have a 94 Q45a and am wondering what the difference(s) between the a and the t are.

wes.

The t has a spoiler on the rear decklid and different wheels as well as the Super HICAs 4 wheel steering.

The "a" has an active suspension that was a much more expensive option than the "t" trim.

It prevents 95% of squat, dive and lean giving the car a more controlled feel than even the "t" version ( which was intended to be a bit of a sport version also).

But the "a" has none of the showy "t" stuff, as the expense of this option when new (an extra $4500 in 1994!), was thought to make it popular with luxury leaning buyers and their wallets.

The "a" suspension is very sophisticated and its equal is only available in newer $90,000 Mercedes'.

I loved the ride in my car, but the suspension died. I am now waiting for a suspension conversion kit from joe over at infinitipartsusa.com (I choose the tokico blues over the factory). Are there any performance advantages for the t vs the a?

No.(other than a minor demand on the motor on the "a" car by the working suspension and of course the "a" is a tad heavier)

In theory car magzines expected a measurable differnce between the "a" and the otehr Q models but couldn't find any.

(Except 1 mpg less)

I'll say Yes based on about 200 lbs. of extra weight for an a model. Never saw an a timed separately at the same time a standard or t model was timed.

The t does handle slightly better than a regular due to a rear sway bar the standard lacks, but a standard can be upgraded with an a rear sway bar. Best combination is a t front sway bar with an a rear sway bar.

1994 Q45t also had HICAS.

By any chance does anyone here know what the 0-60 time is?

I rememebr one number for a 91"a" as 6.9 sec 0-60.A 94 is generally expected to go in the low 7's 0-60 assuming engine/transmission are healthy.

I never belived that 200 lbs number that's been bandied about was real accurate.

The total weight of the "a" suspension eqiupment may be 200 lbs, but the weight of the regular suspension is also not zero.

I think factory put teh difference at 140 lbs based on an older brochure I saw.

About the weight of a full tank of gas.

Also the near absence of squat would help acceleration partially offsetting the extra weight.

Car and Driver tested an a and a non-a head to head, and the a was slower in straight line acceleration. I'll have to see if I still have that issue in a box in the garage.

Sopdadope confirmed the 200 lbs when he removed ALL actsus parts (accumulators, fittings, hoses, bracketry etc) and weighed them, subtracting the weight of the new shocks/springs.
