Hi all, I am after some pictures of the 4.5 ltr V8 engine from your infinites. In perticular the upper & lower intake manifold area, and the cam cover area. I am currently considering fitting this motor (or a lexus V8) to a street machine and as we don't get the infinities here in australia it is very hard to get any info or pictures. Also if someone could measure the distance between the strut towers (shock towers) for me it would be most appreaciated and make my decision easier.

thank you in advance,Trop

It is 34 inches between the towers but 16 inches straight down from the top of the towers is a 2 1/2 inch sill that runs the length of the engine bay perpendicular to the towers that is more that likely the frame. It sits at the exhaust manifold.

The only thing that would be an issue on this and the Toyota, I mean Lexus, would be hacking the ECU. That is of course you were planning to modify the motor....

I started thinking... A good Q engine with transmission, ECU, TCU, MAF etc... will set you back $$$$. Why not just buy a used LT1 or LS1 engine for about the same and have more upgrade options. The Q engine is a great engine but there are just not enough fun and inexpensive things you can do the the motor. An LT1 or LS1 can be pushed over 400hp with little effort. There are too many of us Q owners that would like to have 400hp+ but can't get there. Yea, there are a hand full of beefed Qs out there but there are a S#1T load of beefed Chevy, Mopar and eew fOrDs. That is why you see guys swapping OLD Jaguar drivetrains for 350s. Becides say the Q parts for the guys with the Qs.

That motor they have on Ebay is a genuine japanese takeout engine. The seller can't verify how many miles it has on it but that it came out of a late 90's Nissan President.

Hey Trop,

Where are you? I'm in Sydney & have a Q45.

There are plenty of After market computers that will adapt to the Q45's engine & will control the Cam Timing etc.The biggest problem is matching the engine with a gearbox.

It would be great to see the engine in a street machine & be able to hear it scream to 7000, where the other engines stop about 5600-6000rpm.

Don't know if I can be of any help, but give me an email or ring on 0414 29 34 29 BH.

WOW!! thanx for the replies

wamQ45 - In your post asking why put the Q in, u asnswered your own question. Everyone is putting a lt1/ls1, etc in their cars, I'm a little different. In regard to horsepower increase, the reason I wanted to see the intake is so I can design a twin plenumn/ twin throttle body manifold. That in conjunction with some lumpy cams and a shot of NOS should see me into the 500 hp area with a relativly stock motor (compared to the off its head 5L pushrod motor I'm taking out which makes 450hp) & as for $$$ I can get a motor, trans & all accessories inc computer wiring, etc for AUS$2500 ($1300 US) with 40,000 K's (25,000 miles approx) As for porblems with controlling it, it is widely recognised that australia makes the best high performance aftermarket computers, so thats not an issue.

Chally, that 7000rpm is what I'm after, that & the fact that it'd be the only commodore ute running around with a quad cam motor.check out http://home.austarnet.com.au/trop/ute.htm it hasn't been updated for ages, but you can have a look at my ride.

If your looking for performance for a Q look into the Eaton M90 supercharger. Two shops here have used them and claim 425-435 hp with no major mods. That is running less than 7psi ...A M90 on EBay runs from $400-600 New around $2000. ONe group was Birkmire which hasn't made a kit yet and there is another group in CA. that's putting the same M90 on NEW 2002 Q's and claim the same 425 hp..The plumbling has me stumbed for now...seems that several of the intake runners are replaced in order to keep the all intake under the M90. I also hear that JWT reprograms the ECU for the new fuel and timing maps. Corky Bell has a subscription site for answering all questions $30 or $35 for a years subscription...:D:D

Well if your going to have that much fun you may look into making custom fuel rails that use more standard (and cheeper) higher flow bosch injectors. A new stock injector will set you back $140+usd. Just a thought....

fuel rails are fairly easy to make, & with the injectors being that dear it sounds like I might have to do that if go with the nissan motor

Trop,Keep us posted on what you do.

There used to be pics of the Manifold removed on the last site, which would have shown you the 8 holes & what you may be able to build.:ylsuper

Does anyone know who posted those pics & where we may see them again?

The factory injectors and fuel pump are good up to 500hp on the Q. No need to change. :ylsuper
