Autozone sold me an injector today for my 94 240sx w/ ka24de. It looks slightly different from my old one. This seems pretty odd. I've searched for at least 45 minutes now and can't come up with anything. Did he sell me an injector for a sr20de or sr20det? Do they use the same ones or not? I don't want to just put it in since they probably won't let me return it if I do. Please help!

They probably didn't give you a fuel injector for an SR20, most places don't carry parts for the SR, and most of the time when I buy a new part it doesn't look the same as the old one because its new. Just see if it fits, and if it doesn't fit take it back. If they gave you the wrong part and you have your receipt, then they have to exchange it, its like a law or something.

There's no way they'd sell you a DET injector, as no SRDET has ever hit these shores by normal means.

Stock SR20DE injectors are 259cc and high impeadance, if I'm thinking correctly, so the only issue is top feed vs side feed. If it's the right feed type and that flow rate and resistance matches, it'll work anyway.

The injector went in, but not easily...the only way to actually get it all the way in was by slowly tightening the metal cap that goes over it until it went in. I'm not sure what would keep it from going in. Now the car barely runs and is blowing smoke. The compression check came out okay. There may have been some fuel in the cylinder, but I don't think it was a whole lot. The car starts if I have the pedal all the way down when I start it, and it runs very rough as long as I keep giving it gas. It won't idle - just dies. I still have suspicions about the injectors. I'm posting a picture of what the old and new ones look like. They don't just look different because one is old and one is new, trust me. I'm at a loss here. Please help!!

I think the problem is the old one was side feed and the new one is center feed. I still don't know why the part from Autozone wouldn't quite fit...has anyone else ever heard of this sort of thing?

I actually ran into something similar at the junkyard, as I pulled 4 injectors out of a old Nissan 240SX I pulled 3 that were the same and one that looked different. The one that was different was the same as all 4 of the ones I had in my 95 S14, the 3 other ones I pulled from the S13 at the junkyard were different, heres the pic:

so basically the are the same as the ones you showed, this leads me to blieve that both probably work the same way and that one type is newer then the other.

If it were an injector for the det, chances are it was a z32 injector with the purple top.

There may have been a design revision later on, but looks like they should fit without too much drama. Use vaseline to lube up those o-rings when putting in the new injectors.

Those are the right injectors for a ka...270cc compared to the sr's which are 370cc...and that is how you get the injectors in, by tightenting the metal cap slowly on it...just be careful not to mess up the rubber O-ring
