94 240sx door lock issues - help please

Hey guys and gals, hoping to get a little help here. I am having some trouble with door locks on a 1994 240sx. Door has been (drivers) replaced, but I am uncertain about internals other than handle and lock cylinder. When I try to puch the lock "button" to lock the dorrs, I get resistence. If you push it two times, the doors will finally lock (both) ..?? But with this, the doors never stay that way if you get out of the car. If you lock the doors while open (drivers) and then close it, you can open it right up . I am not new to cars or 12 voly systems, but this is my first import trouble, and I do not have a whole lot of experience with these type of door lock systems. Any help would be appreciated....

Hold the outside handle up when you close it. It's so you don't lock yourself out.

yea the door locks on the 240 sorta suck...i used to lock it then get out and then when id shut the door it would unlock...made it easy for whoever stole my headunit...

So have any of you gentlemen and ladies had any similar trouble with door locks? Why can't there be just a @@$#% button ???
