I owned a 89 & 90 240 SX in the past and now I am looking at a 94 240 SX SE convertible, Please help with any imput.I prefer a stick, but this one is a auto transmission, I do so much city driving that I am considering it. Do the auto transmission's hold up well? This car has 130k miles!Do the "verts" have added suspension or strut tower braces? I owned a 91 RX-7 Convertible and that did have a beefier suspension. I guess overall do these cars hold up as well as the non vert 240's? I think they require the timing chain to be replaced as well as the water pump, what mileage should it be replaced? I haven't seen this car yet, I wanted to do some research before going to see & drive it, any advice is great! Thanks much!
What's up Doug? Welcome to NICO!
The '94 240 was only available as a convertible and only as an automatic. As long as the auto was maintained, it will hold up well. My brother's Altima and my mom's Villager both have the original auto trannies with over 200k on them each.
They're heavier and more flexible than other 240's. They don't have additional bracing that I know of, but you can brace them up. They are not a very good candidate for building a real sports car due to the auto, weight and flexibility. They'll hold up as well as they've been maintained. The timing chain gets replaced usually at around 100k miles, but that's not a hard and fast rule.
Do you know if this one has been done? Are you set on a convertible? I think they're cool cars, especially in the summer, but like I said, I wouldn't pick one to build a sports car out of.
Where in Indy are you?
