94 240 automatic shift problems (searched)

Car: 94 S13 vert,buncha fun stuff

About once a day, the transmission will not shift from 2nd to 3rd and seemingly drops into neutral while I rev away. Doesn't have to be under load to make this happen. Manually shifting in and out of another gear eventually resolves it but there seems to be no pattern to this misbehavior. Ideas?

You might be low on ATF. Check the level.
