My '93 Q45t with about 175k has suffered a sever loss of power. The car won't get out of it's own way. Will only pull about 4k rpm in 1st gear and won't shift under full throttle acceleration, if you can call it that.

The car also has the intermittent misfire. I cleaned the MAF sensor with brake cleaner, but this did not help.

And your MAF may be bad inside. Here's a thread about resoldering the joints:

Thanks for the link.... HOWEVER.

TOO MANY TIMES have I seen people try and disregard fuel pump problems because its "not making noise". Ive seen this 3 seperate times, one time someone replaced a whole bunch of crap before finally figuring out his fuel pump was bad.

Check fuel pressure before you do ANYTHING ELSE. Otherwise, youre just wasting time and money.

In my experience, MAF failures are more of a rough idle/stalling issue.

The 4000 rpm number has been linked to the MAF before (also fuel pump or FPCU), and he has intermittent misfires.

But, yeah, gotta know what the fuel pressure is.

MAF failure is 2000 RPM with a CEL.. Im leaning toward that not being the case.

Exactly. MAF sensor wires are seldom bad unless air filter change intervals are too long or the dreaded K&N or aftermarket CAI is used.

MAF connector and FP are always the prime suspects. Why fuel pressure is measured first always.

Thanks for the tip.

Has anybody experienced plugged precats or catalytic converters resulting in similar symptoms? My '86 Jeep had a plugged converter and wouldn't go faster than about 50 mph. Got any ideas on how to check for a plugged converter. On the Jeep, I used the manifold vacuum to troubleshoot.

Thanks,

Its happened on the 94s a couple times, but not really common... most ofthe time its the precats melting due to bad injectors.

Thanks for directing me to the fuel system. Turns out the problem was a plugged fuel filter. I thought that I had changed the filter a few years ago when I bought the car, therefore I didn't think it could be the filter, but turns out I didn't.

I have purchased a new car and want to sell the Q. If you know of anyone looking for a Q45t, please have them contact me. I'll be listing it in the For Sale posts in the next week or so.

Yeegads! Annual filter replacements are required! Fuel filters are very limited in capacity.

Still can't find anything for which I would want to part with my 1995. What did you choose?

I bought a '98 740 iL.

Alpine White, Grey Leather interior, K&N air filter, Bilstein HD shocks, H&R springs, Remus Stainless Steel Free flow exhaust system, 19" AC Schnitzer type III wheels 8.5" (front) 9.5" (rear), Bridgestone Potenza tires - 255/40YR19 (front) 285/35YR19 (rear), AC Schnitzer pedals.

I think that the Q-ship is a great car. However, it's time to move on. I don't have the time to refurbish it. I would like to sell the Q to someone who appreciates them.

Nice car. I would like to see the wheels.

Think about going back to an OEM air filter if the engine has a hot wire sensor like the VH45DE.

I like German cars, but having owned them, I prefer the Japanese reliability and lower cost to maintain and repair. Still.....
