A few nights ago, I heard a high pitch sound start coming from my rear deck. It started out faint but then got real loud and it is the same "pitch" of sound. I was listening to my mp3 player with the cassette adapter and so I tried a bunch of things to cure the problem or isolate it so I could try to fix it. Well....turning the volume button down didn't reduce the sound at all, unplugging the mp3 didn't change anything, removing the cassette adapter didn't change anything, trying to listen to the radio option didn't change anything (although I can still hear whatever is playing on the mp3 or radio if I turn the sound up louder than the siren noise coming from the rear). I had about a 40 minute ride worth of trying to press different buttons and nothing seemed to work to cure the evil sound. Once I was able to stop the car (after about a 40 minute ride), I thought maybe restarting the car might be another thing to try and still no change. It has been a few days since this started and I will also say that it was raining a lot lately and was raining when this first happened. I have a new battery in the car (about a month old). I have been able to turn the radio and listen to my mp3 with the cassette conversion thingy (my fav.) a few times without this over-powering sound but if anyone can clue my in to a fix or some insight on this problem, I would appreciate it.

its most likely a bose amp that failed... Im sure you can tell which speaker its coming from, and that being the case, simply unplug that amp until you have time to fix it...

I had the same problem on my 1992 Q several months back.

It was the amp. The amp is attached below the speaker surrounded by a plastic housing.

It is an easy fix that can be done from the trunk without removing the speaker.

Should you chose to remove the speaker, this must be done from the rear deck by first removing the rear seat and then the rear deck to access the mounting screws. The grills are affixed to the rear deck, so the whole deck must be removed. This can only be accomplished by removing the rear seat.

The amp can be ordered from the dealer and includes detailed installation instructions. You can probably find a used speaker, but verify the compatibility. My previous inquiries discovered that the 1990 amp, while an exact fit, had a different level of amplification than other years. I do not know the other years compatible with a 1993 amp. My initial guess would be 91-94 at a minimum.

Just as I though.....YOU GUYS ROCK.....my problem has cleared with the rain we got lately so I may not have to replace anything quite yet but if I do, I have the confidence that I need to proceed. Any other input on this topic is welcome

I would definately do a search for "Bose Amp" for more information now that you know that the amp is probably your problem. There are several good threads about where to send the amp for rebuilding, etc...

Good luck!
