Hey guys,

I picked up a VH45de to swap into my 300zx, and I'm having some trouble finding the correct valve covers. I have the pair of valve covers that came with the engine, which have the larger cam sensor and steel inserts, and I was told that this is an indicator of an earlier motor. As far as I've found, the newer motors did not have the larger cam sensor or the steel inserts.

So let's assume I have an older pair of covers. They line up on the spark plug tubs, the cam sensor, etc. It fits perfectly. THE PROBLEM is that the bolt holes do not line up at all. They are 1/2" off in some places.

Now I have another pair of covers, I believe S2, and they do not have the steel inserts or the large cam sensor hole. So those do not fit at all.

So now I have two different sets of covers and neither of them fit/line up correctly. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Or how many different type of covers there are? larger cam sensor = S1 as far as I know, so are there two sets of S1 covers? It's driving me nuts. Any info would be very much appreciated.

I can also provide pictures of the motor/covers and the number stamped on the block if I need to. Let me know.

Thanks in advance!

I'd search in the parts section of the Infiniti web site. It's basically the FAST parts catalog that dealers use. It should let you narrow down the different versions. 1993 was a weird year as they transitioned to some of the engine changes they implemented for the 1994 revision. Did your covers have a rubber gasket, or RTV?
