Would really appreciate some help! I was wondering if I could put a SOHC(VG30E) motor out of a 93 GXE maxima into a 92 maxima that is a DOHC(VG30DE)? Thanks!!

I am new to the Maxima scene, but I don't see why you couldn't put a VG30E in place since the majority of the 3rd generation Maxima's had the very same VG30E.

The bigger question is why? I am a huge fan of the VG30E though, my baby is an 85 Nissan 300ZX.

Thanks for the response Azureblue. The reson why, is I have a '93 that has been wrecked 3 times(by daughter) so body is in bad shape but motor & trans. are excellent. I have located a '92 with a blown head gasket. So before I purchase the '92 was wondering if it was possible to swap engines?

The VG is one of my favorite engines... but in this particular case I have to say it would probably be a better idea to buy the 92 and find a salvage or JDM VE30DE and just replace it. You could even replace the head gasket as they aren't really too bad to replace most of the time. Having a timing chain will make it a little more difficult than the VG but as long as you have an FSM handy, it will be fine.

Having both cars side by side would definitely make the swap a little easier, but it will still be very time consuming.
