Hey all,I'm looking into getting a vert, and the auto transmission has a problem. The problem is, shifting from 1st to 2nd, you have to let your foot off the gas for it to shift into 2nd gear...other gears after that are fine.any ideas? Thanks

Well theres the problem right there

Mine does the same thing man. Try adjusting all the slack out of the throttle cable. Also, check to see if the downshift switch is in the right position. Its behind the pedal and theres a specific distance that it should be away

Lol, well the car comes with everything I need to do a 5speed swap. I'm going to be auto, for awhile.I'll look into that switch.

The ATs go for cheap (sometimes free) if you want to find another one and replace it, thought the new one may start doing that too.

What is that plug? It might help if you unplug it. It's in AT shifter problem thread.

The kickdown switch isnt the problem. Its either the speed sensor, or the throttle position sensor.

If you're a newbie to the Vert forums.. welcome. I think what 94_240sx is referring to is the best place to start (but I know he knows the thread... He didn't get the title of encyclopedia for nothing, but since he went 5-speed he may have repressed the thoughts of the auto days). I think the plug is the Rev sensor. The auto 240's have a fail safe system sorta. If for some reason the rev sensor fails, the speed sensor is supposed to provide back and allow the transmission to shift - just a bit different. I think it is supposed to be almost like a cripple mode, but I know a few folks on here that have been using it for some time. Read the thread and look at the pictures on how to do it if you need to buy some time to do the swap. Many of us have swapped to 5-speed for one reason or another. Hope this helps ya.. Good luck.

unplugging the plug solved the shifting problem on my wifes vert. There were times you could not get it to shift before I unplugged it, been almost am year now, and no problems what so ever!

Rev sensor, that's it. A buddy of mine had exact same problem like OP and I unplugged rev sensor and voila! it worked perfectly after that.

Unplug this, see what happens and go from there.

I unplugged it, Should I take the positive off the battery, to reset the ECU?

Not needed for the unplug sensor to take effect.
