93 transmission make loud noise when shifting from PARK TO R, D

hello 93 infiniti j30, transmission make loud noise when shifting from PARK TO R, D , same thing as shifting back to park , it is like a hammer hitting a metal noise , very sharp loud noise, but when driving, seem fine, only has loud noise when shfting , any1 here has same problem b4 and any1 has any ideal what is going on. this happen two time now in a month.

Its possible its the shifting mechanism/linkage itself(the one the driver engages). Don't take it to a transmission shop (i.e. Mister Transmission, Aamco, etc), my past experience has been they recommend a transmission rebulid for even minor problems.

I would take it either to Infiniti Yorkville or Agincourt. The master techs their are very knowledgeable when it comes to the J's transmission. If the transmission shifts well while driving, its likely something minor possibly with the shift linkage.

Does the sound come from under the car?

If it does its a bad universal joint on the driveshaft.
