Hello all,

I am the second owner of a 93 Q45a with 125K miles. Pearl/Tan with factory BBS wheels. It is a great car. The original owner gave me all the receipts showing work at the dealer for 12 years. Oil changes every 3000-3500 miles, new ATCSUS pump and 4 actuators, etc. 30K miles ago. I have owned 20 cars and this one is by far my favorite.

One recent issue: I am getting a check engine light and rough idle. I used 2 bottle of techron and it went away for awhile, but it has returned. It is now constant (it use to be intermittent and would return to normal after revving the engine). It started about 2 months ago. It became constant 2 - 3 days ago.

It sounds like an injector problem, but 8 new injectors were replace by a dealer 35K miles and 4 years ago. I have the receipts. Any ideas on what maybe wrong?

Anybody know a good independent shop in LA that is familiar with the 1st generation Qs? Somewhere in the San Fernando Valley or West LA preferred.

Thanks!

Have you gone through and diagnosed some things yourself?? Independents are good at replacing parts, not finding the CORRECT parts to replace....

Get on Q45.org and you can probably do some of the diagnostic work yourself!

If you need a MAF, let me know I have 2 spare ones that are good. Seems as it no one wants to buy them.

Shoot me an email and I can put my consult on it. That should give you an idea of what's wrong.

Besides the great help offered above, http://www.jerrytucker.net is your best professional resource in SoCal.

My brothers 1995 q45t had a rough idle...He thought it was the MAF but we tried 2 working ones and it was still rough. He changed his fuel filter and got new ATF and it went away

Don't know what part of LA you are in but in Torrance there is the Japanaes Car Care clinic on Del Amo - near the Mobil refinery. I think they are fair and honest. But they can't do anything about the active part of your Q but I have gone to them for other needs and they have been good.

Thanks for all of your help. I cleaned the throttle body, MAF and MAF connector this weekend. It runs better and is faster, but the check engine light is still on and the idle is still a bit rough. I do not have an ohm meter, but it looks like that's next.

Thanks. Would it help if I disconnected and reconnected the battery? Maybe something will reset itself.

By the way, all the advice here and on Q45.org is really, really helpful. I am glad I found these sites. When I did the work this weekend, I used a print out of the step by step (including photos). It cannot get any easier than that! These cars are gems and under appreciated and I don't want to trust it to some dealer (who hasn't seen a 1st generation Q in 5 years) or independent that has no understanding of the car.

Don't rule out a bad TP sensor. Can cause your problem as well. It will throw a code so you will know for sure when they check it.

BTW - Japanese Car Car Clinic quoted me $550 (labor) to pull the plenum. Several other shops around town charge $700-800 for this.
