Hate to say it but the cheapest way out if indeed the transmission (mechanically) is going bad is to sell the car to someone who has the money.

Try doing the A/T-CHECK as covered in the service manual:

When you get anything other than "OK" The code will be covered in the service manual: http://Nicoclub.com/FSM

I've never got a 90-93 AT to last more than 8 years or 180k, but I drive agressively. However #3 is now 7.5 years old but only 100k so that should be a better example still it is showing signs and is now getting annual ATF exchanges without the annual chemical solvent flush [every other year for solvent] to save the clutch material thickness.

We have seen many people try to find useable junk yard transmissions but AGE has taken their toll. Maybe you can find a wreck/used car where the AT was recently replaced and swap...................cheaper than $3,000 cost of Nissan remans.

Most independents cut corners and just slap in a $300 kit and reassemble with little regard for what happens after 12k warranty expires.

Nissan remans are so good since 2000 that they last longer than brand new ones did previously!

Hard to spend $3,000+ for a AT when you are already spending $2,000++ annually for the other items to maintain. But divided over 7 future years its only $430 per year plus interest more.

Why I use $2500 as annual mainteance cost......all the prorating.
