Hi guys, I'm lookin at buyin a 93 Q45 with 175,000 miles on it the guy is asking $300 for it but its got this issue. He says it has no power below 3000 rpm after that it seems to go fine. He says he cleaned the MAF and it seemed fine for about 3 months then it started to act up again, so he cleaned it again but this time it didnt fix it. So now he's fed up with it and wants it gone. I know nothing about these cars and want some input on it before I make a decision on it. From what I'v learned so far it sounds like it could be either the MAF or Knock Sensor. Other then that it's in fairly good shape for the age and Mileage. So any input would be greatly appreciated, Cause I dont wanna get in over my head on this one , thanks.

If you are not willing or able to put $3-6 thousand into it in the first year, pass on it.Anyone who thinks it wont need this amount,at this age,is seriously fooling themselves.

For $300, if its cosmetically decent, buy it. You could always part it out.

Well I should have added that I'm lookin at it for a winter car. As long as it can move under its own power I'm happy. The brakes were just replaced this summer along with a new altenator, plus new tires.

If it is not only running low on power below 3k but running rough and coughing it could be a stuck egr valve. Actually it could be a number of things but egr could be one of them.

I don't want to bust your bubble but from my experience Q's are not good winter cars. Most rear wheel drive cars are not good for snow esp. if they don't have traction control.

For $300 I would hit it. You can always part it out and get your money out easy.

RWD cars with limited slip and 4 PROPER snow and ice tires and chains are excellant winter vehicle just like the majority of properly equipt Ford Police Cars used all over US.

"A Michigan state police spokeswoman said the department has about 670 Crown Victorias and 10 Chargers.""In February 2004, United States and Canadian agencies participated in winter field tests at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Depot to evaluate pursuit-rated winter tires recommended for use on the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor."

I can assure you the early Q handled better, stopped better, and accelerated better in snow than any Crown Vic with the same or equal tires.

Local Police only downsized to FWD to save fuel.

Thanks guys, I think I'm gonna buy it. I cant stand driving FWD in the snow, you cant have any fun with them! If it makes it through the winter in spring I might look at putting some money into it.
