Did you lubricate the o-rings to prevent pinching? A leaking upper o-ring will cause fuel to leak around the upper cover... a pinched lower will cause fuel to flood into the cylinder.

I would pull the spark plugs to check for signs of flooding.

Good luck!

No leaks, no gas smell. has spark, will start for a second with starting fluid. The gas doesn't smell or look right, so we are draining the tank, and going to try new gas. The gas in the tank is about 5 months old.

If the o-ring on the bottom of the injector is pinched, it'll leak gas into the plenum. The general advice here is to lubricate the o-rings with vasoline before installation.

Now that it is all in and doesn't start, you need to diagnose it.You could try pulling the fuel pump fuse and crank it over a while see if that clears out excess fuel. Then try to start it.

5 month old gasoline?

The newish blends are good for 2-3-4 weeks max, once it is first exposed to water in pipeline and tank farms and gasoline stations.
