Why, yes in fact. I got one from Aberdeen Auto in (I think it was) VA. There # is 732 290 0943. I didn't ask them how many they had.

Did you have them verify the part number? I've seen several cases where salvage yards don't go by model years, but by build dates instead, so they might be trying to sell you one out of a 1994 model that was made in mid-1993. The P/N should be 31036-64U20 or 31036-64U75. The U20 was the standard TCU, and the U75 was a modified put only in cars where customers complained about abnormal torque convertor shift shock.

If you got the right one - congratulations!!!

I have a 94 Q with a build date of 3/93. The ecu numbers they gave me is close. I have a 4E-A18-B16-P93 the one I bought is a 4J-A18-B20-P97. According to a pdf on the JWT web site it looks like they my both be no option ECUs. If some one can decode these numbers I would appreciate. The ecu I bought might be utilized as a bench unit for testing a consult port interface I have been working on.

If I am reading the link below correctly it looks like I have a Fed Emission ECU and the one I purchased is a California ECU. Both ECUs appear to be no option. But I still can't figure out the last code.

What's all the hype? :) Why is the '93 TCU the coveted item?

What is a good price for one? $125? Or maybe I should ask what the usual asking price is.

i've got to tell you. I notified Aberdeen Auto that it was not a '93 TCU, by the part # over a month ago. Also sent them an email that some parts are not interchangeable between the '90-'93 and later G50's (wow, I sound like I knowwhat I'm talking about, huh? Thanks for all the knowledge). I guess they decided to ignore my message. I would give them some very negative feedback on Ebay, or call them up and se what they will do.

Not Cool!!

Just an update- I installed my TCU about three weeks ago and then parked my car in the garage to do the stereo install. The car sat for three weeks and when I finally took it out, I was all excited to test the stereo. Well, I noticed that I was burning the tires every time I took off and noticed it shifting into second. I had forgot I installed it. So I guess I did get what I was hoping for. And it's awesome, best $58 I ever spent. Oh yeah, the stereo turned out awesome too, but that's another thread.

StephenBTW- I called my local Infiniti dealer and they crossed the part # and they came up with a late 93-95 shift control unit.

Sorry Forgot to ask something....

Let me know how your gas milage changes with the new 93 TCU as compared to your previous one. I'd be interested to see if it drops because of the gear difference.

I think I know everyone will say that is bad for the trans - I'm not sure how it is any different than the trans shifting itself.

I won't really know the difference because I barely drove one tank of gas before I did the switch.

On the contrary, first gear starts (especially not at WOT) are always good for the transmission.

So the factory 2nd gear start is a transmission killer?

A portion of 1993 is the only TCU that starts in first?

And is matched with the gearing of the 90-93 transmission. The 94-96 used different gearing.
