He's asking too much but dayymn! I would give a lot to have a first-gen Q with that kind of mileage.

I wouldnt want it.1) Needs an upgraded transmission.2) Needs upgraded timing chain guides.

Total: Over $4500 in work required to bring it up to speed, MINIMUM. A Q with higher mileage most likely had at least the first item done under warranty (mine had the transmission done but not chain guides).

Recommendation? Get a low-mileage 94 or get a 93 with at least the transmission done. See service records.

I had an 93 just like that one...same color TCS, etc with 107k miles and got $5k for it. Cars go for a little more in Midwest. Mine had a little more interior wear and needed a lot of little things. That car is worth close to $6k around here. Unless you are aware of the chain guide prob and would only pay $4k.

I agree on the guides... although some 93s are said to have the updated guides, you'd have to pull the cover to be sure. What in that listing leads you to a transmission problem? The OEM transmission with good maintenence can last 150K+! Even if the maintenence has been marginal to this point, I'd think future wear and tear could be reduced a lot by an immediate flush with Mobil 1 and a new filter, and a cooler. Also keep in mind that the 93 has the coveted 1st gear start already in place, so that should also help transmission health.

I'm not saying the car is in great condition... I'd be concerned about rust and other environmental damage (it never ceases to amaze me how poorly cars fare in NYC) but I don't see the transmission concerns.

Nice car, it would sell all day long in CT for that price.

The transmission was replaced/upgraded under warranty. Its THAT PARTICULAR warranty-replaced transmission that lasts 150k. Now, at 61k, that service may not have been done on this 93Q, and you may be looking at a new transmission right around the corner. Add chain guides to that and you're pretty far down the ****ter financially.

On my 92 Q, service records show that the original transmission had to be replaced at under 40k for the beefier (more reliable) one.

I'm not sure that there were that many improvments to the transmissions over time... I know Infiniti tried an external filter at one point - and Q1's current reman has vent holes in the bell housing around the torque convertor - but they say it just depends on what parts they had on hand when that particular unit was remanned. (e.g. one transmission had a drain plug on the pan, but this one doesn't).

I guess it's a crap shoot with anything. My 90 had 95K on the OEM unit and we replaced it under warranty for "slipping" because of my concerns over the typical whine that I hear from every Q transmission when it's below 60F ambient temperatures. It wasn't really slipping, and shifted as well as the remans they put in later.

I didn't believe the service guys when they said it was normal - but I've never had a Q transmission (or heard one) that's quiet when it's cold outside... In any case I don't know that it had much maintenence - maybe one pan drop at it's 60K service at T3 before I bought it. I wouldn't assume that every production transmission on the early Qs was junk...

I sure hope not since "Q2's" transmission is the original!! It shifts perfectly, so hopefully with her 93 TCU, a cooler, and the new pan I ordered with a drain plug (for partial fluid changes at each oil change between flushes) and Mobil 1 ATF it will last for a long time...

I wish I could use the transmission out of a 97 Cadillac STS. Those monsters are hard to kill.

Talk about Cadillac..My '87 Caddy Brougham has 145k miles. 4400lb car, drive it hard, smooooth transmission, and no work on transmission...not even fluid change. Why put prevent main on car I can replace for $1k?

The fact that he is the original owner and that he has all the service records would make me very inclined to get that car. Too bad I just dropped over 2k on mine.

Manufacture date is 7/92 so I doubt it has new guides... my '92 was built in 5/92 and guides failed on previous owner.

Funny that seller is registered since Nov. 99 and has zero feedback rating (one negative feedback, one positive). Smells fishy to me.

Cars on the internet are no different than people..... more attractive from a distance!!!
