For starters I have a 1993 240sx with a SR20DET which I've owned for little over a year.

This is what happened.

Alternator died and I figured this is an awesome time to learn how to do something myself. Ordered the alternator put it on but it had the wrong pulley on it and was short one rib. Put the belt on and test drove it around the block and shredded the belt.

Ordered a new pulley put it on there and replaced the belt. Had to jump the car let it run for a little while, but it was acting weird. The rpm would rev from 1500 to 2000 then down and back again. Turned the car off did it some more. Turned the car off and it wouldn't start. The battery had died again.

I'm wondering if this is another bad alternator, dead battery (2 month old battery) or whatever the hell it could be. I would much rather not take this into a mechanic and put a damper on my trying to fix my car myself. Any help would be appreciated.

When u replaced the pulley you had to jump the battery because it was dead....how long did you have to wait to recieve this new pulley? sounds like the battery was sitting dead and now won't hold a charge.
