93 Nissan 240SX automatic transmission

For some time now, off and on, the transmission doesn't want to shift gears. The motor revs up and the car goes but the transmission does not shift. Sometimes this happens once a day, sometimes once every couple of weeks. The car has 85k original miles on it and I just changed the fluid and filter. This did not seem to help at all. Any help would be appreciated.

It's the automatic transmission controller box located behind the ECU that is the source of your problem. Personally, I've encountered the same issue with 3 different boxes sticking in 3 different gears.

The short answer is to replace it with one that is known to function properly. However, you can thwart the problem until you do find another box by turning the car off as soon as it starts acting up and turning it back on again. It sucks but it'll get you where you need to go.

Can you please tell me if there is another name for the auto trany control box. We are looking at one which has the same trany problem and before we commit to buy we are trying to see how much it is. We have called several auto parts store and tried every combo of words on the web with no luck. Can you please help
