Fuel pump is relatively easy to access. All you need to do is remove the seat bottom (it is held in place by two clips at the front outside corners). It'll probably be tough to break loose if you've never removed it before, but that's the worst part of the job. After the seat bottom is out, you can see the access porthole that was hidden beneath it. Open that, and you gain access to the fuel tank. There's another access lid on the tank itself, to which the pump is attached. The actual tank access lid has a rubber o-ring that you want to be careful not to drop into the tank...you can probably reuse it but may want to have a replacement on hand just in case.
Once the pump is out, you can test it in a bucket of water where you can see if it's actually flowing anything.
Don't forget to make sure you've relieved fuel pressure before disconnecting the pump (which sounds like it probably isn't an issue for you here).
