1) hello. i have a 93 maxima mt which i bought about a year ago. there has been a knock coming from the rear vavle cover ever since i got it. its a hard knock and it gets very annoying at times. i opened the front cover yesterday just to make sure it was the rear cover. the knock goes away after the car is nice and warm. should i give it to a machine shop and have them mess with it or just open it myself, take a look at it, and do the work if its not to difficult.

2) another issue is the car seems to drag at certain times. i first though it was my calipers grabbing but i took the tires of and checked but that wasnt it. i lifted the front end of my car and tried spinning my tires and its seems very hard. i have worked in a garage and know how a normal spin would be. the problem occcurs at different times.the problem it goes away comes back and so on. i had the clutch replaced in it last august and didnt have any problems until recently. its killing my gas mileage. any help would be appreciated thanks.

which engine do you have VE30DE or VG30E?

As far as concern 2 some drag is normal when trying to ratate the tires by hand. especially if you have posi.

its a VE30DE.

the drag is in the drivetrain because at times the car seems to drag when pushing the gas pedal but other times it drives at it should. my friend told me to do a test by keep the car at about 15mph then going up to 35 or so and time it to see how long it takes when the issue is there and isnt. imma try that tomorow if the problem occurs again.

the noise in your valve cover is likely the VTC. I am seeing it more and more now at the dealer. Those are not cheap either.look at this picture, its the first part in the list of parts and its number 17 in the drawing. that price is likely the best price your gonna find for it to.

to test it to be sure before you run out and buy it, disconnect the connector on the end of the long metal bolt near the timing cover ,for that bank. if the noise subsides that is your problem.
