Hi
Heading down the road at about 35 and with no warning the trans just dis-engaged. Got it towed home. fluid was clean and full. shift lever feels like it is engaging. shifter moves the linkage. when running it drops rpm a very little bit but does not engage in any gear. car bought with 300k on it with incredible maint records. never gave any sign of issues just out of the blue...done. goes through all positions fine just none of them engage. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for any tip or suggestions. my investigation takes me to solenoids, or pump...you? :wtf2: :wtf2: :wtf2:

All the manual and auto trans that went out on my went out over a noticeable period of time-not just instantly
You could feel them beginning to "slip"
Did the fluid smell "burned"?
There is a hose on my 95 and 98 which vents the transmission to the outside air.
That hose is under the hood-is it clogged?
Does you vehicle speed sensor work? If not it might be electrical related

You also need to check and see if the transmission lever moves when you shift your car into drive
"feeling" may not be enough (get a friend to help you)

highly doubt its the shift linkage because he put it into drive and it was driving. Sounds more either sensor or internally. Best bet imo is to put it into a reputable transmission shop so they may diagnosis and repair the problem. Also autos tend to go out far sooner then manual transmissions. my 2 manuals are nearing 250k and still no slipping or grinding. my auto is also nearing 250k and its giving hard shifting when it first engages and shifts between gears.
