i know there is a ton out there about this but i just have a quick question. My chain rattles but only when its about 1500rpm thats the only time. I put lucas oil additive and now it only does it every so often. It sometimes does it at idle but not very often. Do you guys think i am good for a few more months till i have the money to by the kit.?

Oils Additives are usually BAD. Your oil needs to be clean and smooth. Not thick with crap.

Take off valve cover and upper timing chain cover.Remove the upper and side timing guide.Replace the timing chain tensioner.Replace the valve cover gasket.

The total time for replacement is only 30 mins. But you'll need at least 6 hrs in hot low humidity enviroment for liquid gasket used for upper chain cover.

Change oil with cheap oil and pour in half a can of SeaFoam to clean the engine. Use Purelator PureOne filter for best filtering.Change oil again after 15 mins or so of running engine. You can use Synthetic oil if your seals are new and there are no leak in the cylinder.

Remember, the best lubrication is pure Synthetic oil. The rest just mess up your engine.

I just fixed my rattling chain a couple weekends ago. Take out the 2 chain guides and make sure you're upper timing chain tensioner is functioning properly. Too easy.

funny i was just gonna start a thread on this....so now for the steal.... mines been rattling and clicking, most visibly at idle. is it the same problem? and i recently replaced my valve cover gasket, it came with extra halfmoon pieces, can i just use those when i put the valve cover back on instead of buying a brand new valve cover gasket/plug gasket set?also, what kind of liquid gasket would be best to use, i already have the blue RTV one.oh, and its about 50 degrees low humidity here, will the liquid gasket maker still seal well in like 6 hrs? i mean, if i do it in the garage its probably around 60 degrees lol, but def. low humidity. when i did my water pump it took about 4 hrs to seal and that was over the summer, so i dunno. gotta plan my day around it ya know.Thanks.

Hi-temp silicone like the orange or the black one will work fine. I usually let mine sit overnight.

hey how do you know if its bad? my chain rattles but the tensioner doesn't seem bad. like i press on it and the it barely moves. is that how its sapposed to be or are you sapposed to be able to move it?
