I have the 1993 I:240/E:248 cams and the 1995 232/232 cams. I want more midrange, but not as much as the 232/232. Should I go with 240/232 or 232/248? My car doesnt really take off till about 3,500RPM or more, and prefer more lower rpm powerband? I have 4-2-1 headers, 3inch catback and gutted cat.

Thanks I read through that page. The only thing is it doesnt specifically cover the 2 setups I was going for. It briefly mentions the 240/232. I dont want to use an exhaust cam on the intake side, so i am limited. Oh well I will just try them for myself and see how it feels. It seems smaller exhaust is the way to go in any case.

I did the 240/232 and i like it! Tomorrow im doing the 248/232 setup. Instead of moving the gear 3 teeth back I am just going to re slot the gear at 3.5 teeth. The gear is cast iron and would be much easier then redrilling the dowel location.

Feel free to do a write up on your findings and I'll add them to the cam sticky if you like. Knowledge is power.

Well I like the 248/232 a whole lot better even though it is raining out. I don't have much to say but I made up this pic on where the 3.5 tooth mark is. This pic should help people understand where the optimum spot is for an exh on the intake side. People should realize that the 248 cams only lope because they are off degrees.

This setup is most definitely worth trying! The stock 240/248 are way too top end oriented for me anyway. The ka is an undersquare motor that's why i think more low to midrange cams will work better. The car doesn't feel like its struggling up to 3500 anymore. it pulls slightly better on low and still rockets more toward the upper rpm's. Another thing is how much the exhaust sound changes with these setups.

Quick question on how you did this cuz this is exactly what I've been wanting to do and I have read most of the threads on this (just want it dumbed down a little more for me to make sure)... So did you just take the cam gear out, drill a new hole in that location pictured, and put the gear back in the SAME EXACT spot on the chain? Then just rotate the new 248 cam til the pin lines up with your new hole? Or did you have to rotate/jump teeth somwhere when reinstalling the gear at all?

Also, just curious, you mention less lope because the degrees arent off by as much when redrilling the gear, but does it completely eliminate it?

When you drill it in that location you put the dot in the stock location. so yes its in the same spot. The standard 8 links apart, thats why i drilled it. It still does lope slightly though, and it has a deeper sound overall that I like. Just be sure to hand crank it over a few times so you dont bend valves lol.
