93 J30 will not go into reverse

I am new to this forum. My 93 J30 will not go into reverse. It will go into 1st, 2nd and 3rd but not overdrive. Also when shifting into 3rd it is taking a lot longer than it used to. Does anyone know what could be causing this or is it new transmission time. I really enjoy driving this car, but I don't have the funds right now to spend $2K on a new transmission. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Nico.Need some maintenance history.Color of transmission fluid on a white paper towel ??Mielage ??

Could be a solenoid issue or a thrashed transmission.Give us details and we can go from there.

My J30 has 189,000 miles, The guy I bought it from maintained the engine very well, I have alot of documentation (oil changes, timing belt changed, etc) I can't find anything on the transmissionand he is very difficult to get a hold of, he travels alot. The fluid looks clean, it is red and does not smell burnt. The car runs really good, just shifting funny and the reverse won't work. I hope this is an easy fix, I don't have a lot to spend right now. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I have read a lot about the rev sensor causing transmission problems. Could this cause the transmission not to go into reverse? I put some Lucas in it yesterday and it seemed to improve the shifting from 2nd to 3rd, but still will not go into overdrive or reverse.

The rev sensor symptoms are very different then yours.
