93 J30 transmission Shifts from 1st to 2nd Gear

Hi:

This is my first post. I got my 93 j30 last month with only 7k5 miles. Comparing to the car I used to drive (2000 corolla), it seems that the j30 transmission shifts really hard from 1st to 2nd gear. It feels just like I got rear-ended by someone.

I read many posts on this problem and people day that once the car warms up, this problem should just go away by itself. However, in my case, even after the car warms up, the transmission still shifts hard from 1st to 2nd gear. The only way for the transmission to shift smoothly is to keep the engine under 2000rpm.

Please let me know if your j30 has the same problem.

nope. In fact, mine upshifts softer than I would like.

That's the first I've heard of your problem.

Usually J's shift rough till the vehicle warms up.orHave troubles switching gear (i.e. 2nd to 3rd intermittantly) won't shift but if you turn the vehicle off and turn it back on the transmission will shift smooth for awhile unitill the problem reappears-this signals the need for a new revolution sensor.or shift rough all the time-which indicates transmission replacement.

Oh my god. I really think my J needs a major transmission check-up. In fact, ATF was changed right after I got my J and the "harsh" shift problem became not that bad, but still there...

An ATF fluid change is simply an ATF fluid change. It can't reverse any damage that's allready existing on the transmission, in some cases an ATF change can make the problem worse.

Both I've driven shifted hard into second, moreso when still not fully warmed-up. It seems to do it less hard when given more load. Within reason, of course.

Hi:

I finally know where the problem is:

I got the transmission flushed at Mr.Lube using the T-Tech. However, after the T-Tech, they added about 500cc of ATF conditioner. With that 500cc extra, the transmission is not happy.

Fortunately, Infiniti dealer identified this problem. After draining 500cc of ATF, transmission is so happy and smooth.

i have the same problem with hard shifting between 1 and 2 gear. if does feel as if someone is hitting me from behind. and from what i can figure out through searches here, is that it might be the knock sensor or the throttle position sensor. i plan to eradicate this problem soon and i will post my findings later
