On this vehicle does the transmission cooler return line just return the cooled fluid to the pan?

If not where does it go first? Does it push through some additional components?

Lastly, how many quarts does the pan hold before running dry if the return line were disconnected?

Contemplating a DIY trannny flush procedure similar to that used on my 01 suburban 4L80E transmission.

If it works I'll post the procedure with pics.

Thanks, Matt

Good luck on your experiment. Personally, if the transmission is still good, I would not risk it to save $100.

Knowledge is experience gained at a dear price.

The return line feeds the rear planetary at 20-25 psi, failure to maintain will gall the gears fast..........the pan gets the fluid ALMOST last just before the pump feeds the TC. Why the drain and refill by pouring into dip stick is a NO NO!

Lots of people's jobs depend on shade trees and no maintenance owners destroying their trannies. If everybody BG flushed every year half these people could be put out of work.

Unfortunately people don't start the process at 1 year and 15k, so much damage is done by the time they wake up.

Okay,

You win, on my Suburban it is an easy job with almost no risk to the transmission, the return line only feeds the pan. so you stop every 4 quarts an make sure the pan is still topped off and then keep going until you have pumped 16 quarts through it. It is one big transmission!

Any word on a good shop in Tucson, AZ that is competent and trustworthy to do the transmission flush?

Thanks, Matt

I would go to an independent before a franchise place. they may let you bring in your own fluid so youll be sure to get fresh stuff...

dont cringe, but this is one of the only jobs i go to jiffy lube for, friends with the owner, and they let me get down in the pit to observe, and i figure they probobly do this more often than any other service place, plus get to WATCH my 14qt of mobil 1 atf go in MY transmission, every 12 months, like clockwork, never had a problem!use them regularly for routine service on the wifes car to maintain our relationship throughout the year,he he!
