93 J30 transmission and ABS question! please HALP!

Hello, I was wondering if anyone may have had a similar experience to mine or any insights..

Today my J30 makes a high pitched sound similar to the reverse sound but in first gear. Then when it should switch to 2nd, it goes to nuetral and to engage the transmission at all again I must turn the car off and on again. Once again it onlywill go in first gear even if i put it "manually" into 3rd.

Also, a longtime problem has been the ABS, it shudders to a stop on hard stopping, seemingly coming from the right front tire. I replaced the pads and rotors recently and that didnt fix it so i assume it has something to do with the ABS. I even cleaned out the ABS sensor that sits behind the rotor but that did nothing either.

the shuddering on the right wheel....check your strut bushings

transmission - check fliud level and then get it jacked up or on a lift and see if you have any damaged connectors going to the transmission

Thats what my transmission did before it went out. Checking the fluid level is always the first thing you do with an Automatic when it's giving you problems. Smell the fluid, if it smells burnt (or just REALLLLY nasty), you probably have a bad transmission.

I hate to sound obvious.... But try your alignment on the front right....

Is it normal for the trans to shift a little hard? Its really only noticeable from 1st to 3rd.

Hard shifting is normal 1-2 before the car is fully warmed up. Hard shifting from 1-3 is abnormal. Does it go away after the car has warmed?

Thank you, I think this site is great. Yes it does almost stop when the car is warmed up. The only thing that is constant is it shifts in and out of overdrive allot.

thanks for your feedback guys. I'm going to check the connections to the transmission and then I'm going to get a junkyard transmission and put it in there. Should be fun lol. Good idea about the strut bushings! Peace.

I just had brake work done on mine and found out my bushings were shot along with a tie rod...and mine shudders and the wheel kinda shakes and wobbles. I'm getting it all fixed in May
