This might sound like a dumb question but I don't know that's why I'am asking. Can I crome my aluminium rims.

Alot of companies offer chroming of alloy wheels. I do know that Nissan at one time had a tech bulletin regarding wheel chroming and they were against it. There reasoning, during the chroming process, the metal in the aluminum would change to a more brittle state and you could possibly have a wheel failure. I have seen several vehicles at our Infiniti service department with the wheels that have been chromed. Alot of times the factory will send dealers information due to the fact that ONE out of THOUSANDS of a particular part has failed, and to keep down on lawsuits, they have to OFFER the customer a replacement. This type issue is very well noticed when it concerns a safety item. (air bags, seat belts, brakes, suspension parts, etc). Personally, I havent seen or ever heard of any problems with chroming the alloy wheels, I would make very certain that the company doing the job knows the business in what they are doing!

It depends, do your existing rims have road salt damage?

In the Toronto area, I beleive Wheels Direct (in Scarborough) has got there own rim chroming/powdercoating facility.

Hey DriverDriver:Where in Toronto are you?, I'am near Bathurst and St. Clair Avenue.

Corrosion around the edges, and they look dull.Depending on how much it will cost to chrome, I might consider getting some nice five spoke 15" or 16" chrome rims, I'am also looking into getting dual exhaust. In my opinion this car should have dual exhaust from the factory.

I'm out in Scarborough, Port Union & 401.

Best place to get a custom exhaust for a J30, variety, service and a fair price is Majestic Muffler in Scarborough.

As for your rims, the way you describe them sounds like they need to be refinished and chromed. It'll cost you more than just by chrome rims. But if your interested I know of a place (also in Scarborough) that does rim refinishing.

If you are bent on chroming Infiniti rims, I suggest you log on Ebay and do a search for J30 rims. Buy rims from only from the southern American states. They are usually in pretty good shape.

BTW there is a Nissan 300ZX club that meets monthly out in Scarborough/Pickering and Ajax. Infiniti J30/J30t owners are welcome.

Of course you know that the J has a dual exhaust. In the 90's, it was the fashion to have the pipes come out in one location only. That's just the way it was. On the upside, I guess you do save a little weight that way with only one resonator.

Nowadays, you see crap cars with single exhausts split to look like duals. Bogus.

Thanks for the info driverdriver and VimyJ.

I would love to meet other J30 owners in the Greater Toronto Area. Could you e-mail me driverdriver at [email protected] with more details about the meet in Ajax?Terry C
