First off, thanks for taking the time to read this, appologies for length.

Broken key tip in ignition, dissassembled ignition key cylinder & switch, removed key fragment & (3 hours later) reassembled. Ignition no longer works, it's a standard key, (no chip/transponder). Vehicle only has "no key in ignition" power to any accessories when attempting to start. No in dash idiot lights, no engine rollover, no power windows, radio. Hazards, door locks, auto trunk opener/fuel door all function properly. Battery checks out, no other changes to vehicle inside or out.

Is this possibly a security feature/issue where if the vehicle detects ignition tampering such as in a car theft that it blocks ignition? Is there some breaker or switch that I need to reset?

I am LOST here, MUCH thanks if anyone can shed any light on this!

There is no tamper switch so we can rule that out.

Did you put it back together correctly?

The actual switch (Part with harness) is replaceable which is good news. Its held together with one philips head screw.

How does the "fixed" ignition feel when turning compared to before?

All feels the same when turning the key but we had it apart so long with so many trial & error reassemblies I'd pretty much bet on human error on our part.

Regardless you've ruled out the "magic reset switch" hypothesis so I can quit barking up that tree. Time to eat the bullet & shell out for a new one I guess. Would you recommend going with a brand new unit from a dealer as opposed to taking our chances with one scavenged from a wrecking yard or are there some good after market suppliers where I might safely save a few bucks?

Sincere thanks for sparing me further chasing my tail looking for a switch or breaker that doesn't exist! Any recommendations for where I could order replacement parts, (both ingnition switch & key cylinder assembly), would be much appreciated.

Well test the continuity of the switch when turning the key.

Also check the fuses because I am sure there is one for the key switch.

Used is used so your taking your chances. And new is expensive and you would need to replace all in order to avoid having 2 keys.

I am an idiot. Of all things the one I didn't check.

Under the hood in the fuse block I find a .14 cent blown 20 amp fuse. Problem solved.

If I'd just spent about $2.79 replacing a slightly bent key I could've avoided all this:6 hours or more screwing around with the whole deal2 days stressing over the whole deal2 days without a vehicleAll the time I would've otherwise been spending with my kid, (it's spring break here).

If I'd had Triple AAA or even shelled out $90 bucks for a late night locksmith I could've avoided all this.

I'm done shooting myself in the foot trying to save a penny & losing a dollar. I'm going with your recommendation on new parts.

Much thanks AGAIN for all your troubleshooting and advice Paul!

Have a good one!
