93 j30 engine to-97 j30 what's the difference

what do u have to change to replace 93 with 97 :help

I dont think they are very different at all, they are both VG30de engines except the newer model has a reliability improvement in form of improved timing belt ( kevlar) and probaly some other minor changes.

But its best to wait for the the J30 guys to chime in for more info.

engine installed fine but won't start do i need to change the ecu to a 97 or what

The only modification that I am aware of to the J's engine mechanics was a gizmo to prevent engine flooding after a quick on off cycle. However, I know that the 97 J has the OBD2 diagnostic system. The 93 has OBD1. Don't know if that could cause your problem but there is that difference.
