Hello everyone... just stumbled across this site while surfing for info on my car. I have a 93 J30 (about 140K KM) automatic V6. It was driving perfectly till 2 days ago when all of a sudden it started acting strange.

You see, if I drive the car for 5 mins, it shifts into neutral. Then if I turn it off and let it sit for a while, it works for a few more mins as 'normal' and then same thing happens again.

I am guessing its some sort of electrical fault - either with the TCM or the shifter switch...but not quite sure how to check? Has anyone else experienced this problem before ? Am I on the right track?

Please help

Thanks

Using the serach function run a search for J30 and transmission, plenty of information available. You may want to run a search using my user name "driverdriver" and find the name and telephone number for the transmission tech at Agincourt Infiniti in Toronto, his name slips me. A few J owners on this board have contacted him and he's basically diagnosed their transmission related problem on the phone or told them what to tell the Infiniti tech to do in order to succesfully diagnose the problem in their area.

I had this happen back in 94 on my first Q.

I could drive it for a few miles when the trans. was cold. Then it would just coast like in neutral.

Turned out that the transmission was gone.

Dealer fixed it under warranty.

SWAG?

The pump is cavitating. Either the trans fluid filter is completely clogged, or the seals in the pump is shot in the trans.

If it's been driven like that for a while, the above posts are correct. Time for a new trans.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Appreciate your help.Actually, the car has not been driven at all since I discovered the problem. Since that day, I have drained the transmission and refilled it with Nissan oil... how can I check the rotation sensor without dealer tools?

Anything else I should be looking for / at?ThanksI tried calling that Bill guy at Agincourt but he didn't help at all...said he didn't know anything about trannies...:-(
