i was wondering since these 2 cars are ALMOST the same if the stock replacement struts/shocks will interchange?? im curious because i cant seem to get struts/shocks for the j30 anywhere except the dealership im sure and i would think that you can buy altima struts/shocks at the parts stores?? if so will the stoc struts/struts for the altima fit the j30?? nad i JUST rememberd that the 93 altima might not be rwd like my j30?? where is a not so expensive place to buy new shocks and struts for the 93 j30?? thanx!!

Not the same, won't interchange.

Contact EverythingNissan.com, talk to Joe. Tell him you're from NICO and see if he has Tokico Blues for the J.

Great price, awesome struts.

Depends on the "Adapt" factor. Not really wanting to chop up the mounts.

I'm prety sure that Tokico stopped making shocks for the J. It was a very slow seller.

I do see them every once in awhile on Ebay. part of the description includes "new in sealed box, no longer produced."

they dont make tokicos for the J anymore... 300ZX is closer to the Q stuff than it is the J. the J suspension is closer to the Y33, 240, maxima, altima, etc......

What I might consider doing is buying a used altima shock or osmething and see how they interchange..... you could get one at the junkyard for like $30.

well i guess im stuck just buying one of those kits that i posted a link to up there... do i REALLY need the $800 kit??? i might as well get i guess... i guess the more parts that get replaced in the front end the less likley it is to have that damn clunk that it has now..... or would the $500 kit be just fine?

If so My "Clunk" was a blown tension rod bushing. Replaced the whole tension rod with bushing in about 15 minutes ..No more Clunk !

yes it clunks when i hit the brakes and it almost feels like the front brakes are locking up before the rears or something?? and when i go over bumps in the road etc it makes the clunk noise as well.. is there a way to jack the car up and look around and see if my problem is the same part that you replaced?? if so where would i look will it need an alignment if i replace that part?

but im sure it might be a combo of bad struts and bad bushings in the front end... i have the car at the infinity dealership right now getting the timing belt done and they said that they would take a quick look at the front end and and let me know what the noise maybe and what al lthe front will need to not make noise anymore..

Sounds just like what I suffered from .Theres a tension rod on both sides , you can see them easily , At the rear of the tension rod is a Bushing with a large bolt going through, Its about the size of a tennis Ball !!Mines was obviously dryrotted out on the drivers side .And yes , you should get an alignment after you replace it .Go to http://www.fuzzycats.com and click on the J30 link , then the DIY link , he has the procedure name "Tie Rod" replacement ,, lolHe means tension rod , I emailed him about that but he never changed it .

Big clunks over small bumps for me too when I got the car.

I had my shop do this as I had not seen this DIY. They only charged me like $120 including the new bushing. They were able to get just the bushing and press it in instead of getting the whole bar like Infiniti wanted to sell me.

I don't see why you would need an alignment after fixing the sway/tension bar bushing.

ok so i just got my j30 back from the dealership w/ a new timing belt and everything else they replaced ($1135 worth) and they said the the same thing the tension rods..and i dont want to buy them from there.. im going to call around to some shops tomarrow and see if they can do the swap for me if i get the tods..are these the same thing as tie rods??? when i call oriely auto parts etc.. they could only find a listing for tie rods... if nothing else il buy them from joe as well and have them installed...

EDIT ok so i went and looked under my car.. both of my bushings are ****.. so i think i just want to replace them both.. i got on everythingnissan.com and looked but couldnt find the actual words "tension rod" only tension strut and that things are like $100 a piece!!! so should i just call them tomarrow and ask for joe and see how much he would charge me for both of them?? and then il just install them myself..thanx for everyones help by the way!!

You cant install them yourself unless you have a press.. The bushings are about $15 each...

I would take it to a shop and have them press them in.

but what if i just buy the WHOLE rod brand new w/ the bushing allready installed? then its just 3 bolts each right? and i should be able to do it myself?? or would it just be LOTS cheaper and easier to buy both the new bushings and take the rods off and take them somewhere and have them swap them both out??

New tension rods are about $80 each. So $160 +SH vs $30? They wont charge much for labor, maybe 1 hour to swap the tension rods in and out, and hten another hour to press.
