Hay folks I picked up this project for my nephew.
93 Black Hatch. I had, what I thought, a good KA24de motor in my garage.
I cracked open the valve cover to lube the cams prior to installation.
I damaged the gasket and was at the store when I noticed that the valve cover gasket for a 93KA was not right for my cover. I asked for a 96 gasket and it was a match.
I never came across, in reading, that there were differences. There are.
The power steering and bracket are different.
The distributer- is different1 connector instead of 2.
After engine installation; it would rotate, but not fire.
I rechecked the compression, reset the timing, Not firing
I discovered there were unconnected vacuum lines in the back- Research showed a different configuration for vacume lines between generations.
Worse yet- my whire harness was missing the 2 connectors for the EGR system.
I Blocked off the EGR system with an Enjuku Kit.

At this point the engine rotates freely but will not fire.
I have 3 sets of injectors all were wet in the fuel rail.
My plugs smell wet.

I can only think that I might need a 95 and up ECU because of my distributor now only needing one plug.
Any help would be greatly welcome.
Thanks.

Welcome to NICO!
Congrats for getting another young one into cars! This community is a wealth of information for anything you might need to learn or repair along the way.

As for your question, thats a good one! I don't have the answer, but you may be correct about needing the newer ECU. You may also (and don't quote me) need a correct year MAF.

Make a post in this thread with a link to yours and you'll be in better shape to get a solid answer.

You need s13 (dohc 91-94) intake manifold sensors and distributor. Thats all. The bracket for the ps pump should work no problem but the s14 pump puts out 200 more psi of pressure which is enough to pop the rack seals and ps line. Whatever gives first

Also the alt on an s14 is slightly different but is an upgrade over s13 the s13 is 80 amp 95 is 95amp and the 96+ is 90amp. The positive terminal on the alt is slightly thicker not allowing the eyelet to slip over take a drill bit that's the roght soze or a rotory tool and bore it out.

Also get a set of s13 cams or research stock cam swaps and pick what is best for you. Its pretty impressive what people have discovered with that

Thats about it not too bad
