I've got a 93 Nissan Hardbody with a 4 cyl RWD that needs a new motor. i tried looking on the motor itself but i find the motor "code" or name of the motor (like d17y8 or something like that). i plan on getting another motor and rebuilding it and then just swapping them when the build is done so i can still drive the truck. is there anything special i should know about working on these trucks. I'm going to do all the work myself and i'm new to nissans, I usually work on hondas. any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Welcome to the NICO Rick!

Make sure you stick with another truck block to reduce the swap time.

If you want more power you can look into things like Cams, Headers, hi-flow intakes etc.

The 2.4 bangers from the cars have some subtle differences that can become a PITA come install time.

IE: Dip Stick Location. Sump Pickup Location, A few people here have already experienced that one.

I'll get some of our local 4 Cyl gurus to hook up on this string and they can give you the poop on your rebuild.

thanks for the help. i'm not looking for performance just yet, i want to keep everything stock right now. i'm trying to look up the engine code, but i'm having difficulty. the only code i've picked up so far is ka24e, is that right?

Your motor is a single cam KA24E, and I would think that you could swap in pretty much any '92-97 engine. It's factory rated at 134hp and is known to be an extremely reliable engine.

They're pretty straight forward engines and they swap quite easily...you can pull it without disconnecting AC or power steering lines....just lay those accessories to the side.
