Whats up guys, my name is Eddie and Ive got a basically stock 93 hatch. Yesterday it started missing out on my way home from picking up my son. The cap and rotor looked pretty wore out so I swapped them out with a known good set. Ive got a strong odor of fuel, a gas fouled #2 plug, and gas on the ground on the driver side. I checked the resistance in the plug wires and thats all good. I searched but couldnt find anyone with the exact same issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

could be a leaky injector. consider getting them cleaned and flow tested. They're probably way overdue for such a service anyway. As for the gas on the ground, check around each injector for signs of leaks, then follow the fuel rail back to the lines, check those, the fuel filter, etc. The only thing on the driver side that has anything to do with fuel is the charcoal canister, so check it for leaks.

I swapped in a different injector and it runs on all four, but im getting a ton of exhaust smoke back up in the engine bay. I cant see any leaks at the moment. It also sounds like my exhaust is leaking in front of the cat. Is it possible to have a cat get plugged and cause enough back pressure to make an injector fail? Its fine when im on the gas, but as soon as I stop it falls on its face and dies. I need a beer.

I suppose it could be possible, depending on the mileage and so on. Maybe unbolt the downpipe from the cat and see how it runs.

That should solve the problem temporarley (sp)

You can do a compression test. The head could also be messed up if its only effecting #2 cylinder. Make sure the injector o-rings arent screwed up. Also check the plug wire going to #2.

Ive been meaning to do a full tune up anyways. This seems like a pretty good time to me. Im pretty sure the converter was the root of the problem, its got a huge hole in the bottom now. Ill have a glasspack welded in monday and see how it does. The cap and rotor were both done, so I swapped them and checked the resistance on the wires. So hopefully things will be better next week. Thanks guys.

For the love of GOD, please dont put a glasspack on the car . A glasspack is NOT going to solve your problem. I hope your not taking more advice from your friend.
