Ok so i bought a motor about a year ago with the intent of boosting and just now am getting into the finishing stages and then i realized that the distributor timing was fully advanced and i asked a friend a reason to why it'd be like that. He said that if the chain skips a tooth that it can run with the timing all the way advanced. And i'm wondering what it looks like in the pictures i've got compared to the way it should be set up. My friend said it looks to be a tooth off which would explain a few things. let me knwo what it looks like . IT IS currently at TDC.THANKS A LOT IN ADVANCE!!!!!!A picture of what it should look like would be amazing!

look a lot like the chain may be past it's prime . check timing with the tensioner completely extended ...like when it's running. The only slack should be on the tensioner side and the tensioner should be able to make the chain tight .If not it's time to replace the whole set as the sprockets , chains and tensioners all wear at the same rate

It looks right, but its hard to tell from a picture. You can make sure its right by lining up the 2 marks on the sprocket with the one mark on the idler pulley. The yellow mark goes on the idler pulley and then there are two slightly darker than the average chain marks. They correspond to the marks on the cam sprockets.

Also, your cam timing would have nothing to do with distributor advance, think about it. Those two are completely separate systems.

Looks like your cams may be off by 1/2 a link or 1 whole link. There should be 7 whole links between the dots on the cam sprockets, from the pics it looks like there is more.

From your picture you dont have the timing chain lined up in the center of the alligning marks. That could be cuasing you some trouble. Move the chain one way or the other so that the alligning marks are directly in the center of the chain link.

Dont go by the angles of the cam's in the picture, the intake cam is actually is closer to 9:00 than 10:00(say.. 9:20ish heh). Go by the number of links in between your two sprockets.

The 'dots' on the cam sprockets are exactly 7 links apart. So get your exhaust cam at 12:00, and your intake cam near where its supposed to be and count the links.
