Is there any problems with this swap? i just posted the same thing in the NA KA forum, but no response. Im swapping the 93 DE into my 96. I think the 93 is an obd1 and mine was an obd2. the new one is fully ported 3-angle valve hot tanked and rebuilt with pacesetter header. I already have this engine with a new clutch and 1000 miles on it. so i have to swap it in, i just need to nkow about the ecu or the smog, any info would be GREATLY appreciated. thanks -Bryan

Only use the head/block combo, and keep the '96 exhaust and intake manifolds, electronics, etc...

Makes it very simple.

But the new engine has the headers on there, wouldnt i want to keep that, or will i have to put my stock exhaust mani back on the engine, there are no EGR or idle control valves anymore, its completely ported supposed lyhttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...%3AITtheres a link to the engine i bought.

Dude, your in TO, sweet, I go to CLU in TO....maybe we can meat up sometime...early September or so...

Back to your question, since you are in cali, it is illegal to swap an older engine into your car, only newer is allowedboth engines are OBD1, so you should have no problems there, and passing smog…wow…either find someone who takes cash, or swap back the original engine when you get tested.

Im bringing this topic back in because the guy i got it from said"no, you have to use the dohc manifold with the dohc head. plus mine has the idle air vavles removed. it idles rough, but gives alot of top-end power" So what should i do now??? does the 96 intake mani fit the 92(i meant 92 not 93). I am swapping the 92 to the 96 chassis/body. i need to know. they are both dohc right? and they both have 16 valves. i just want to make it work, Id love to just bolt the engine is as is, but i guess that will not work?? I want all the power possible, i plan on turboing this setup VERY soon, so i must know the truth!!!\thanks everyoneBryan

Also i know My engine is OBD2, I have scanned it myself, the OBD1 doesnt even work on the 96 Ecu.

As Orion said, just use the head/block combo. And use the 96s intake mani. I'm pretty sure you could use the 93s exhaust mani (or headers) if you really want to. Can't think of any electronics... except for the both O2 sensors (easy welding job) on there.

Yeah, in this case, use the head/block, and the pacesetter header.

Use your '96 intake manifold, you have sensors that need to be on the motor to keep the ECU happy.

So pretty much any KA24DE block/head combo will go into any KA24DE equipped car without having to worry about ECU related problems right?
