I have a 93 2WD D21, the engine is old and tired and I was going to overhaul the engine and bring it back to new condition.
Real issue is the timing chain ate through the front cover into water passage.
BUT
I found a VG30E long block (93 replacement) on sale at Rock Auto for less than the parts to overhaul the KA24E and no core either.
Now my overhaul project has become a swap engine project. There are many good junk yards in the North Texas area and I am going to source every thing I can to get the new engine up and running from the junk yard.
We have owned the D21 since 2001 but I have never paid any attention to the V6 as installed in the D21.
Are there any serious issues in a 4 to 6 swap in the same model year D21.
I already know the 4 speed auto has a different gear ratio; but will it physically bolt up to the V6?
I see it as just a matter of also sourcing the brackits and bits required from the JW.
Electrical will be different but there are many same year pathfinders out there and most of them had the VG30E engine so wireing should't be any issue.
Same source for the ECM.
Are there other Nissans that used a version of the VG30E engine or its siblings to be picked for useful parts?
All help appreciated.

bellhousing bolt patterns are different from 4 to 6 cyl. you will need the computer and wiring harness from a v6 as well. its not just a simple swap. all said and done you will spend more money in swapping from 4 to 6 than just replacing the 4 cyl. IMO

best cheapest way is to find a running but crashed v6 and swap it all. I know d21 v6 are rare here but a pathy may be the answer as most were v6 if in the same yr categories.

The v6 has been cancelled. I did not want to have to also swap out the transmission.

I have always liked the 4 cyl, it has proven to be rugged and reliable.
I has hauled 1500# in the bed and 600# in the cab without a complaint.
It brought us back home even with the timing hanging with little tensioning left.
Overhauling it will not be difficult and the prices are reasonable.
I have to get started!!!
