This is my first post here. I'm actually posting this for my father. He has a 93 Q45a with about 76k miles.

Anyways, we've been having some problems with the stock bose stereo system. After being on for about 5 minutes, a high pitch squeel is only heard from the speakers. This delay is only heard when it is cold. In the summer time, the squeel starts when the stereo is turned on. I recently found a refurbished unit off of ebay for relatively cheap and installed it thinking that the original head unit went back. Again, after 5 minutes, the squeel returned. So scratch the bad head unit idea. The antenna mast is stuck in the up postion, but this would not be causing the issue. The next thing leads me to the amp. Has anyone had this problem? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The amps, which are mounted on each speaker, are going bad.

You can send the amps for repair (www.carstereohelp.com) or even better, replace all the speakers, replace the head unit, and run new wires.

I'd go with full replacement. The Bose system is too mediocre to keep.

Do your Dad a big favor and show him the timing chain guide article.

I disagree. I've always thought our oem systems are very musical and smooth. I don't know if you guys are into home audio but there is a well known hi-end audio company name Cary Audio. Their founder, Dennis Had was riding shotgun with me in my 93 and he was blown away by the dimensionality and smooth detail of the system. BTW, I'm a total hi fi nut, and I'm very happy with the stock system. I'm not 20 years old and out to impress the low riders, though.

I've thought about adding a sub or pulling feeds off the bose and putting in some class D amps. Buts its such a pia.

I would grab some oem speakers off ebay and pop em in.

i was getting a low loud popping sound & replaced the entire system with a gps/map/system - nice update. It was a hard decision to remove the oem, love the bose system but I had to do something. Now I am having an electrical problem (surging rpm/low batt msg). Any ideas?

The only thing I miss is the power-operated button cover on the Bose head unit. That little "O" button is cool as hell.

If it were the speakers, wouldn't you hear the squeel right of the bat? I was nt aware that each speaker had an amp, I thought that it had an external amp separate to the system like my mr2 and cherokee limited does.

Isn't it kind of odd that all of the speakers went bad at one time?

That was the worst part ov removing the oem, loved it 2. The front door speakers have a plastic housing with a vent, like a sub woofer. the Amp is directly behind the speaker mag. the whole assem is 4X6. You can get a good look at the rear speakers by removing the upper trunk lining.

Is there an audio diagram for the oem stereo system around somewhere? I would like to take a look at it.

I agree with the first part. Good enough for a car where the primary activity is driving.

But I disagree with the last as the capacitors that fail are a time/heat/use failure item. Why buy someone else's problems when the fix is an upgrade and far longer lasting?

Simply because some people (like my father) prefer original equipment and is not looking to spend a lot of money to overhaul the stereo when they are going to replace the car in a short while.

The car has been in the shop countless times in the passed 4 months. All fuel injectors went out in a matter of 2 months of each other is the most recent. It's pretty much time to cut ties with the car when you've paid double the amount of what it's worth in a matter of 4 months.

Well it's my mother's car. Anyways, the car was originally owned by my uncle who sold it to us when he bought a new MB S430. It didn't have any dents or scratches on it at that point in I think 2001 or so. Now, it has a few dings and a few light scratches. A small portion of the liscense plate trim paint has come off for some reason. The car is that silver champain color with ivory leather and white carpets. The leather has no rips on the seats or anything, just a lil dirty. A thorough professional detailing would clean it up quite nicely. Along the hard side trim(not sure what material it is made of) of the driver's seat recently recieved a few gashes due to the seatbelt being caught between the seat and the door when my father moved the seat back. Other than those and a few other minor things, the car is in pretty good shape. How much would you think it'd sell for? The Infinity dealership said that they would buy it in a heart beat.

Oh and clear title. It just had it's major service performed. What was done? I have no clue. I believe the timing chain was replaced.
