first: in general, the lsd is not in the transmission - it's in the rear differential. not sure if you're confused about that or not. if i'm reading into it incorrectly, please ignore my blatent obviousness and insult to your intelligence.second: i don't think any verts came with lsd.third: if your vert happens to have lsd (most likely from it being swapped in), it will work the same with auto and manual.

240sx is a rear wheel drive car, so differential is in the back unlike other Honda cars. All verts came with open differential.

I doubt that your car has LSD. There are several ways you can check. Look at the pumpkin and see if there's orange sticker on it. Is there clunking noise when you turn at low speed? Who was the previous owner? Hardcore car guy? Does your pumpkin look like this or different? Jack up the rear end turn one wheel and see what happens. If you search, you should be able to find threads talking about identifying LSD, VLSD and open diff.

This is vert open diff diagram from FSM.

the previous owner was a old guy in the airforce but he had cross drilled slotted i rotors all around they're 400 for 4 and braided brake lines on ebay front and rear . im in atlanta right now so i cant look at my car right now ,im gonna be back home tommorow ill be able to tell than i hope i got lsd that would be sweet, i spin out in the snow pretty easy tho dont know if that helps with identifying the lsd or not. theres no clunking noise when i turn at low rpms but when i go from first into second it slips than does a hard kick but thats only in first or second is that due to a bad torque converter u think?

The easiest way to tell is to get the rear end up in the air and spin one tire. If the tires spin in the same direction, you have an LSD. If the tires spin in opposite directions (one goes forward, the other goes backwards) you have an open.

I find that method much more conclusive than looking for a sticker. Stickers tend to fall off after 15 years of road grime and weathering. Also, if someone swaps an LSD in, they may do what I did. Pu the LSD unit in the open diff carrier, which means there would be no sticker since the old carrier was used.

since its an automatic, put it in neutral. otherwise it will act like an open diff and spin both ways. i found that out after i swapped my diff in.

That's a nice piece of info.

Helicals aren't technically LSDs. They're torque biasing diffs, so they act different in achieving the same effect. The spin method is meant to work on what most people would get, a VLSD

Stay away from those. I'd rather have a welded diff than stick one of those in there.
