93 Altima no light on ac switch means what?

I have searched this forum looking for a wiring diagram so I could figure out why the light does not come on when you press the ac button. Maybe that is the long way, but I need to know what that tells me, that the light doesn't function, I just replaced that unit with a new one? All the other lights in the new panel work?

Well, the compressor turns but squeals, my mechanic says it's bad, bought a new faceplate/switch to get all the other lights working. The blower fan only works on speed 4, and I ordered a resistor for that which plugs in somewhere behind the glove box I have read. Both fans work as they should when AC button is depressed.
